The Kalamazoo Division is a full service, BRCGS certified corrugated facility with an ISTA test lab on site. We manufacture a wide variety of corrugated products from point of purchase graphic displays, to varying sizes of corrugated shipping containers.
A structural designer works directly with corrugated paperboard to create structurally sound and visually interesting shipping containers and point of purchase displays. The Structural Design Intern will perform a variety of assignments involving engineering principles and knowledge of packaging materials for packaging/display development and improvements.
In this role, you will:
Work closely with design team to complete daily/weekly/monthly tasks.
Assist with the development of packaging including prototyping, testing, and documenting the processes.
Help designers with equipment testing and machine try-outs related to packaging implementation.
Assist with packaging cost estimating.
Develop knowledge of materials used and all packaging assembly processes.
Provide help with Value Added/Value Engineered packaging improvements.
Create, review, update and circulate packaging specifications.
Gather critical client requirements and research product alternatives.
Interact on cross-functional teams in support of various packaging material projects.
To be successful in this role, you should:
Possess the ability to arrive to work on time and maintain a professional demeanor while working.
Have familiarity with ArtiosCAD (both 2D and 3D), Adobe Illustrator and TOPS.
Possess strong hands-on and mechanical skills with familiarity of hand and power tools.
Have excellent communication and organizational skills.
Have a working knowledge of MicroSoft Office products.
Be working toward a degree in Packaging Science.
Possess the ability to see color, and to distinguish shades of color precisely.
Be able to lift, push, or pull 50 lbs, as well as navigate stairs, stand, walk, bend, and kneel throughout the entire shift.
